Survive the festive season with Well Aware: Our Top Health Hacks

With Christmas fast approaching coupled with the cold, dark mornings, it can seem as though the universe is against you staying on track with your health and fitness goals. Finding the time or indeed the inclination to fit in some exercise amongst all the late nights, socialising and boozing can seem like an arduous task.

At Well Aware, we are all about ease and convenience so here are a few of our favourite health hacks to ensure you breeze through the festivities in rude health and with a minimal hangover.

Accountability

With the Christmas party season well underway, people’s healthy habits and fitness routines can be easily overlooked – not when Well Aware are in the equation. Well Aware regularly checks in with clients, providing a constant source of motivation and inspiration.

We also believe that people are more likely to stick to an exercise regime or nutrition plan if they are held accountable to someone. If you are feeling as though you need a bit of extra support throughout the winter months, booking a few personal training sessions might be exactly what you need to help motivate you to make that workout. Remember to book it in like you would a business meeting to ensure you stick to it.

 

Marginal Gains

Rather than seeing the festive season as a weighty (excuse the pun) battle ground which is too overwhelming to navigate, instead see it as a time to be enjoyed in moderation. Take note from David Brailsford, the coach who revolutionised the UK cycling team through his marginal gains approach. Make small changes such as having an alcoholic drink then a glass of water or leave the work Christmas party half an hour earlier to ensure you get some extra shuteye or run to work or fit in a lunchtime workout to alleviate any hangover symptoms. All of these small incremental changes can add up to a significant improvement to ensure you survive the Christmas party season without piling on the pounds.

 

Buddy Up

If the thought of getting out of bed on a wet and wintery day to work out fills you with dread, agree to meet a friend at the gym then you are more likely to see it through. More often than not, people let themselves down, as they are not accountable to anyone (see point 1). Just as you wouldn’t be late for work as you are accountable to your boss, the same principle applies plus you can provide each other with the motivation you both need.

 

Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!

I cannot stress this enough but water really is your weight loss friend, especially during the festive period. Make sure you drink at least 2 litres of water, more if you are consuming alcohol. Alternate alcoholic beverages with a glass of water when you are out to ensure you do not get dehydrated.
